SUMMER! I’m so excited to explore a whole new version of Denver now that the sunshine and HEAT are here!
Today, with a high of 89, the girls and I went to see what one of our favorite parks looks like in the summer—with the WATER FEATURES TURNED ON!
We were not disappointed!
Civic Green Park in Highlands Ranch has not one, not two, but THREE separate water features aimed at the under 8 crowd.
Pulling up to the park and seeing the extremely crowded street parking had me worried that we’d experience similar crowding in the park, but since the three water features are so well spaced out, the crowd was very nicely distributed all over the park.
There were two fountain areas and the third water feature is a stream that meanders down and around beautiful landscaping, making its way past a specially designed wading area before dumping out into a (no swimming) pond, running through a filter, and starting its journey all over again. Talk about gorgeous!
This meandering stream and wading area was exactly my girls’ speed (they’re not fans of water being sprayed at them, especially in their faces). We explored every available and accessible inch of that stream bed. The water never gets deeper than about 12-14 inches so I was able to relax a bit, sit on a rock and watch Cadence and Adelaide from the side of the stream, as they splashed and explored.
The water was a bit cold, but didn’t seem to bother them at all—they could have stayed and played for HOURS.
I cut them off after 90 minutes (I hate applying sunscreen to wet kids!) plus it was nap time, and BOY-OH-BOY did they take good naps—solid two-hour naps from both of them. Woohoo!
We’re already planning our next visit! Bring it on summer! We’re excited and ready!!
Do you have any favorite parks in the Denver/Littleton/Highlands Ranch area with water features we should check out? Let me know!!
I'd love to hear what you think!
