Rain, Rain Come Out to Play

This is the first of (hopefully!) many guest posts by the lovely Joy of Frock Files. Not only is she a wonderful personal friend of mine (and Adelaide’s!) but she is also a writer, designer and avid blogger about all things fashionable. Since she is constantly showering my girls with her amazing finds, I asked her to share her musings on fashion for the littles in our lives! I hope you enjoy her post as much as I do!!

It’s such an honor to be a monthly contributor here at The Caterpillar Years! Heather knows first-hand how much I love kids fashion, because I would literally spend all my money on clothes for Adelaide and Cady if I could. One of my favorite things to do is to take Adelaide shopping with me, then watch what she picks out. “Hmm…” she says, after something on, “pretty cute!” That, my friends, is a fashionista in the making.

Since I have a tiny bit more experience dressing Adelaide than Cady, I’ve decided to work this premiere post around toddler fashion. I think the biggest concern when dressing little ones should be comfort — you have your whole life to wear things that aren’t soft or roomy enough, but when you’re a toddler (and especially when you’re Adelaide), you can get away with pretty much anything. This is an outfit that’s both touchable and sensible. Soft cotton dress, cozy leggings, and a waterproof hooded jacket — perfect for the damp springs we have here in the Pacific Northwest. If your toddler is as much of an accessories fiend as Addie is, the clips and shoes will be well worn. And if you’re anything like me, you’ll wish that you, too, could wear stripes and polka dots with sparkly Chucks all at once!
