We have been taking our sweet time decorating our new place—really trying to do things we LOVE (not just think are cool) in hopes of not wanting to redecorate in six months.
Our latest accomplishment is a picture wall in our master bedroom. WE LOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVEEEEEE it! I’m a little sad that it’s in our bedroom, so I can’t enjoy it more often, and more people won’t get to see it. But it’s so perfect for our space; I can’t imagine anything else occupying that wall.
We were super meticulous about putting together the picture wall. It started as an idea (obviously) then Matt created our room in a 3D model software (Google Sketchup) and built the frames to their exact dimensions so everything was to scale. Then I sat down and designed the arrangement.
Next was the trip to IKEA to buy all of the frames, and once we had all the frames, we spent an entire day plotting and measuring and re-measuring and hammering nails into the wall. Matt was so meticulous with the computer model that it made plotting nail holes on the wall super easy.
Once the frames were hung, I needed to figure out which photos to frame! We’ve had two different family photo sessions, not to mention the gazillion photos I’ve taken of Adelaide over the past year, so there was a lot to sort through and choose from. I did manage to narrow it down to 18 images though.
After two tries at framing (thank you lame-o IKEA frames….) we finally had a finished photo wall! It turned out amazing. We find ourselves using any excuse to spend time in our room and enjoy our family photos.
Yay for great pictures!
