Well, it’s taken much longer than anticipated to get back into “normal” life after our Palm Springs vacation…but here it is, better late than never, a short recap of our grown-up week in Palm Springs, California!
About a year ago, Matt and I escaped for a weekend without the kids and went to San Francisco. That was a fun trip, but we realized it was much too short to truly reap the benefits of our time without the kids. So when we started planning my 30th birthday trip to Palm Springs, I knew it needed to last about a week. What a difference those extra three days made!
It took about 48 hours for us to fully relax, and realize we were on no one’s schedule except our own. The first two days, I kept looking at the clock and planning out when and where meals needed to be eaten. Then I finally forced myself to realize we can eat whatever we want, whenever we want, wherever we want! It was so freeing!
The second awesome part of our no-kids vacation, was suddenly having evenings and nights back! It was like our days doubled in length!! Did you know people go out of their homes and DO THINGS after 8pm!? I’m serious!! haha! We made full use of those 75° desert nights—discovering bars, live music and street festivals.
The big appeal of Palm Springs for us, was their enormous collection of Mid-Century Modern architecture. It was incredible, to be surrounded by beautifully preserved homes, banks, gas stations, car washes, hotels…the list goes on. The community in Palm Springs has done a wonderful job advocating for these structures, fighting to preserve and restore them. It was truly awe-inspiring to see so many people working to keep these little pieces of history alive.

Food is always a big part of our travel plans, and we ate at some delicious restaurants: Las Casuelas Terraza, Matchbox, and Cork and Fork. Since we were in a condo, we also ate several meals at home—two dinners and almost every breakfast. It was a fun challenge to see what we could (literally) cook up with limited resources.
In short, we had a fun, inspiring, relaxing and RESTFUL week. It’s so wonderful to come home and feel totally renewed!
Thank you Mom, for watching the girls all week!! <3
I'd love to hear what you think!
