I had a fantastic mother’s day! Did you?
We started celebrating on Saturday with Cirque du Soleil! We left the girls at home with my good friend Kate, and Matt and I enjoyed a quiet afternoon watching some of the most incredible acrobatics and gorgeous costumes I’ve ever seen! The show was OVO and it was all about bugs and a giant egg. It reminded me of A Bugs Life, but with less plot and cooler stunts. It was such a fun show! And the best part was that it was just Matt and I. Quiet time with just the two of us is so rare these days—I was really soaking it up. The girls survived the three hours with Kate. I knew Adelaide would be fine, Cadence on the other hand, screamed for two hours and then slept for an hour. She is such a mama’s girl, I knew she wouldn’t be happy, but I hoped that she wouldn’t cry the whole time. But she’s 5 months old, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. She did, of course, survive and was her old self as soon as mommy and daddy came home. Sorry Kate! Thanks for hanging in there with my fussy little monkey!
Sunday was wonderful. Cadence slept almost all night (she only woke up once at 2am)! Probably because she was so exhausted from crying so much on Saturday…but I enjoyed the full nights sleep regardless. Matt got up and took Adelaide out to pick up lattes and then came home and made an INCREDIBLE brunch! We had fried eggs and hash browns followed by the most incredible waffles I’ve ever had in my life! He made them from scratch and stiffened the egg whites before adding them to the rest of the batter and it made these waffles that were crispy on the outside but SOOOOOO light and fluffy on the inside. They literally melted in my mouth. DELICIOUS! To go on top of the waffles he made (my favorite) a strawberry compote and topped everything off with real whipped cream. And as if that wasn’t all enough, he also made mimosas! That’s right! Latte’s AND mimosas! I was in heaven!
Adelaide picked out a super sweet card for me and colored all over the envelope and daddy helped her sign her name inside. She was so excited to give it to me! That was the best…she piratically opened the card for me! I love that she’s starting to understand holidays and celebrations and special occasions—it makes them all so much more fun.
The rest of the day was spent on video chats with grandparents and playing outside in the kiddie pool because it was 90 degrees. SO HOT FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR! We’re soaking up the sun for a whole week here in Portland, with temperatures in the 80s! Such a treat!
After the girls were in bed, Matt and I finished off the evening with our absolute favorite wine, Cunundrum (a special treat for us!) some delicious chocolate fudge cake from my mom, and surprise ice cream from Matt.
Matt is well aware of my deep love of ice cream and he somehow managed to hide some in our deep freeze so he could surprise me with it that night. On the hottest night of the year, there was nothing I wanted more than a little ice cream and I LOVE that my husband came through for me!
I would not be a mother with out him, so Sunday was as much about him as it was about me. I’m so very thankful for my two beautiful girls and my amazing, loving husband!
I'd love to hear what you think!
