Leaf Hunt + Autumn Sun Catcher

We’re still enjoying 80 degree days, but our nights dip down into the 50’s, so the tree’s are all starting to show their fall colors! Cadence and I went on a leaf hunt this morning to see how many colors we could collect.

Fall is a wonderful time to talk about colors with toddlers—vivid colors are everywhere, and each day, the trees looks a little different.

 

When we got back from our leaf hunt, we made sun catchers! This is such an easy craftvitity to do with toddlers and there’s almost no mess! Winning!

Supplies you’ll need

• Leaves from your leaf hunt
• Transparent Contact Paper cut into two circles, one slightly larger than the other.
• Construction paper, cut into a circular “wreath”
• Stickers or markers for decorating the wreath
• Scissors
• Tape
• String

First

Peel the back of the larger circle of contact paper and lay it sticky-side-up on the table. Let your little one place their leaves on the circle however they wish. Cadence wanted to organize hers by color.

Second

When your little one runs out of leaves, or space on the circle, it’s time to create the wreath. Peel off the back on the smaller contact paper circle, and center it as best you can, over the larger circle. Press down and smooth out all of the air bubbles around the leaves so it’s as flat as you can make it.

There should be some sticky space left exposed around the edges. Now stick this overhang onto the construction paper wreath.

I reinforced mine with tape.

Now let your little one decorate their wreath. We used foam stickers I found at Target.

Taking the paper off the back of the stickers was great fine motor skills practice.

Third

Once your little one is finished decorating their wreath, it’s time to hang it up! Find a window, measure out some string and attach the string to the back of the wreath. I used tape 🙂
