Moving is mostly awful. Mostly really awful. But the one thing I do enjoy, is the challenge of decorating a new space.
The kitchen in our last house was little (teeny tiny) with another small room off the kitchen that we used as an eating area. It was cozy, and because of our comfy kitchen table, our social evenings always ended late at night, sitting around that table. Still though, the space was quite small.
In our new place, we have this enormous room for the “kitchen”. According to the paperwork from the rental company, this room is technically a kitchen/living room/eating area, but somewhere in the past 40+ years someone put down vinyl flooring in the entire space, so it all seems like one giant room. After having such a small eating area/kitchen, I am LOVING all this open space!
The downside to open space, is not having anything to put in it! I’m slowly remedying that, though.
Here is the first little section of our kitchen that’s been made-over.
Before…
After!
My favorite part about this make-over, was that we had almost everything in our house already! I stole repurposed the baker’s racks from the garage and grabbed some storage containers that were tucked away in our closet. All of the other items were stuffed in our seriously lacking kitchen cupboards, so this open, display storage for some of our serving pieces is VERY exciting!
After it was all done, I only ended up purchasing four new items for the space. All of which were organizational pieces to help keep clutter at bay.
1. Wall mount file holder 2. Magnetic dry-erase calendar 3. Desktop drawer organizer for receipts and coupons 4. Wire locker basket
This new little family information center gives us a space for notes and flyers and hair clips and receipts and coupons. And fruit. Because, you know…
Next up on on my kitchen make-over list are these two shelves…eww… Stay tuned!!
