I know I’m a few days late here, but better late than never!
We had a fun-packed Fourth of July this year. The neighborhood we live in, here in San Jose, has a BIG celebration event in our neighborhood park. We’re talking parade with floats, classic cars and a fire truck. Apple Pie contest, free cupcakes, Dip’n Dots, live music and more!
We planned to make it to the parade in time to watch, but the girls slept in until 9am (!!! WOO!) so we got there about 11 when the last of the paraders were coming back from the parade route and ending at the park. This turned out to be perfect though, because the firetruck was bringing up the rear of the parade, and once the firetruck was done parading, they set up in front of the grassy field and turned on the hose! They sprayed down all of the kids, and adults and anyone else to wanted to cool off. It was pretty epic!
We had no idea this was going to happen, but as you can guess, Adelaide was suuuuuper excited and had a blast running around getting wet.
After the drenching…we decided to head home, have lunch and get the girls down for their naps, because after naps, we had a few friends coming over to join us for a proper 4th of July BBQ.
We had an awesome time sitting around our backyard, in the shade of the orange tree, enjoying cold beers, snacks, watermelon and some delicious food!
Around 7 we did sparklers with Cadence. This was her first experience with fireworks of any kind (since last year she was in bed at about 7pm) and she wasn’t too excited about them. Adelaide, however, remembered exactly what sparklers were from last year, and was very excited to play with them again.
One of our neighbors bought a bunch of illegal fireworks so once it got dark, we were treated to a little show! It was so loud that it woke the girls up, but they enjoyed sitting in the backyard with us and watching the fireworks explode. It made for a late night, but we enjoyed every minute of it!!
Hope you had a wonderful 4th of July! Happy Independence Day!!
