Day 6. Make a Christmas Craft.
I got this idea from Play at Home Mom. She did this “baked cotton balls” activity with her kids as a kitchen-play activity. I loved it, but wanted to be able to do something more with the results. When I was brainstorming ideas for Christmas crafts in our Christmas Countdown I realized a slight modification to this activity would make a great wreath!
So here it is!
Supplies:
• 2 Cups flour
• 2 Cups water
• Food coloring
• Cotton balls
• Round baking dishes and smaller round cups for the center (not for baking)
• Cooking spray
Directions:
Mix the flour and water together until you get a smooth consistency. Divide into bowls or cups and add desired amount of food coloring.
Spray the baking dishes with the cooking spray and place the small round cup in the center of the baking dish.
Dip the cotton balls in the paint (make sure to cover completely…I’m not sure how exposed cotton would do in an oven!) and place painted cotton ball into the baking dish. Repeat with additional cotton balls until you’re happy with your creation!
Remove the small center cup, and place into 300° F oven for about 45 minutes (may take longer depending on how much paint was used. Adelaide’s took a full hour!).
Let the wreaths cool completely, then add a ribbon and hang in a window or on a door, for all to enjoy!
PS…Adelaide’s wreath is not burnt…she chose to “make a rainbow” by dipping each cotton ball in all of the colors. Hooray for artistic exploration!
