I absolutely LOVE the holidays and wish I had more time to share all of the fun things we’ve been up to, but alas…

These cards, however, were too cute not to share!

Adelaide wanted to give out “presents” to her classmates at preschool for Christmas. I am certainly not one to get in the way of a giving-heart, but my wallet just can’t afford a gift for each of her six classmates and two teachers. Instead, I called upon my filing cabinet of craft ideas and came up with this!

Reindeer candy-canes are old news—they’ve been around FOR-EV-ER! But combining them with this cute little Valentine card idea…LOVE IT!

Have some fun with your kids and make reindeer candy-cane cards of your own!

Supplies

Candy Canes (the thinner the better—easier to fit through the slits in the card)
Googly eyes (I used the 7mm size)
Brown Pipe Cleaners (cut in half)
Red Poms (for the noses!)
Hot Glue Gun and Glue
Picture of your kid holding out their hand as if they were holding something

Instructions

Step 1.

Take a picture of your child holding their hand out as if they were holding something. You can have them looking at the camera, or at their hand. I found it looks best if their face is in focus, and not necessarily their hand.

I added text to my photo, but that’s optional! PicMonkey is a great place to edit your images if you don’t have image editing software on your computer.

And…just because it’s the holidays and I love all of you very much, here is the text artwork I created for my photo. Feel free to download and use as you see fit!

Download “Candy Cane Card Graphic”

Then get your photos printed! I kept it easy (and cheap!) and printed 4×6’s at Target. This would also work for 5×7’s or if you want to be super trendy, 5×5’s!

Step 2.

Make the reindeer. Here’s a tutorial if you’re not sure how.

Step 3.

Make two small cuts along the top and bottom of your child’s fist in the photo. These will need to be long enough to accommodate the circumference of your candy canes (hence the tip for THIN candy canes!). Then slide the candy cane in one slit and out the other! Done!

Pretty easy, huh? And super adorable! I can’t wait for her to hand these out at preschool next week!
