My sweet girl, Cadence, is five!! What a fun milestone birthday! In honor of this little lady, I thought I’d share a bit about her.
Dear Cadence,
Today you are 5!!
You’re not too sure if you want to be five. I think that’s because somewhere along the lines, someone told you that five-year-olds weren’t allowed to suck their thumbs. But I’ve assured you, and Daddy has assured you, and your sister has assured you, that yes, you can still stuck your thumb when you’re five.
Boy, you really love that thumb! You’re very good at only sucking your thumb when it’s time to sleep, so I’m not too worried about the habit. There is so much that’s changing in your life at the moment—I’m happy you have this little piece of comfort to rely on.
At five years old you are nearly 40 lbs, which is right in the 50th percentile. For height however, you seem tall compared to your classmates, so I’m curious to see where your official height measurement falls.
Speaking of classmates, you are LOVING preschool! This is your second year at this preschool, and you exude so much confidence each day when you walk through those doors! You own that place! Each and every staff members knows you by name, and you are quick to greet each of them with a smile and a hug.
Your favorite subject in school is Spanish—I think it’s because your Spanish teacher, Ms. Sofia, is the absolute best. Your next favorite thing to do at school is play on the playground. You’ve just about mastered the monkey bars!
Speaking about mastery, your reading has EXPLODED lately!! Daddy and I CANNOT believe all of the words your are reading to us!! It’s so exciting! Your favorite book is the My Little Pony Elements of Harmony book. It has 255 pages and covers everything MLP from seasons 1-3 of their TV series. We have read it together, cover to cover, 5 times. haha! And I frequently catch you reading it to yourself. I’m so glad you found a book you love to get lost in.
You are constantly talking. CONSTANTLY! Usually about what’s on your mind, which is both adorable, and sometimes difficult to listen to. But I can see all of the dots connecting in your little head, and it’s one of my favorite things about being a parent.
The only thing you love more than school, is playing with your sister after school. You two have the best relationship. No one is the boss—you each share your ideas, and then you work together to make a decision. Sometimes Adelaide gets her way, and sometimes you get yours. What a great partnership! My dream is that your sisterly relationship grows into a lifelong friendship.
Your favorite food is still mac ‘n cheese and your favorite drink is still milk. You would survive on dairy and bread if you had your way! Despite your strong preferences, you are becoming more excited about trying new foods, and the dinner table has become less of a battleground—I’m thrilled!
You can ride a two wheel “pedal bike” but still prefer your glider. You adore swimming, playing soccer, and anything that involves running around. Your favorite thing to do is laugh, or make other people laugh.
You are our silly girl, our brilliant light, our joy! We love you and can’t wait to celebrate this year with you!
With so much love,
Mommy
