9 Months!

Our Cadence, the 9-month-old.

This month’s most noteworthy change has been her physical abilities. We’ve been seeing this:

And it has completely changed the flow of our daily routine! I can no longer sit in one place on the floor and play with her. She wants nothing to do with stationary play! She want’s to crawl, as fast as she can, to the step, or the hearth and pull herself up on it. The total disruption to our lives is so worth it, though, to see that gummy grin of delight on her face every time she accomplishes her goal.

Speaking of crawling, we’re finally seeing REAL hands and knees crawling from this girl! It’s not constant yet, she still prefers to army crawl around the house, but the “real” crawling is creeping in there, more and more. I think by the end of September she’ll be “real” crawling full time. So exciting!

Cadence still has teeny tiny little feet. She’s just now starting to fit into size 2 shoes (thats one size up from newborn!). The tiny-ness of her feet is hilariously exaggerated when she stands, because they are juxtaposed to her generous thighs. haha! Oh, this girl!

She is developing quite the personality. She makes AMAZING facial expressions! We find ourselves laughing at her frequently. Such a silly girl! And she talks, she talks all the time! Between her and Adelaide this house is NEVER silent! They actually have little conversations between the two of them. Cadence will make a noise (her favorites are “ma” and “ba”) and then Adelaide will say the same thing back to her, and then Cadence will answer with something else, and then Adelaide will repeat it back—it’s all very fun to witness.

Cadence plays peek-a-boo! If I put a washcloth over her face, she’ll pull it off and then I say “peek-a-boo!”. Which is followed by laughter and then she pulls the washcloth back up over her own face, and then quickly back down again, so she can hear me say, “peek-a-boo!”. It’s so much fun to play with her!

Cadence has started destroying Adelaide’s creations. Nothing valuable, yet, just the towers and houses Adelaide constructs out of blocks. She’ll be happily building off in a corner of the living room, totally oblivious to Cadence crawling up behind her. Then WHAM! One swing from Cadence and it all comes tumbling down. I think Adelaide is having a harder time adjusting to Cadence’s new mobility than Matt or I. We’ve had to find new places that are Cadence-proof for Adelaide to play.

She finally has her first tooth! And by the look of things, several more aren’t far behind. She’s been cranky, and drooly, and sleepy (yet not so sleepy) for a week or two and I’m thrilled that it was teething! At her check-up, our pediatrician confirmed her teething and saying that her gums looked “quite red and swollen” so we will probably see a whole lot of teeth in a very short amount of time. This first tooth is an upper lateral incisor, so our little girl is going to have fangs for a while! haha! Like she needed any more personality!

And she can clap!! It is sooooo much fun to watch her clap! She gets so excited, and then we get excited, and then everyone is excited! She’s even working on waving. We’re not quite sure she fully understand that one yet, but at the rate she’s going, I don’t think it will take her long.
