A week ago (last Monday) Cadence had her half-birthday! It got kind of lost among all of the celebrating for Adelaide’s birthday (Yes, my girls are only two days shy of being EXACTLY two-and-a-half years apart!) Instead of cramming in a post about her in-between all of the birthday posts, I decided to wait a week. So here she is! 6 months (and 1 week) old!
It’s been a month since my last post about her (obviously) and I can’t believe she’s still not quite crawling. I thought for sure she would be crawling by now…but she’s not. She’s moving herself around quite a bit, by army crawling, which I guess, technically, is a way of crawling. But ya, it’s not traditional crawling. Anyhow, still not quite crawling. The girl is hilarious, though, she can turn on a dime. She’s figured out how to lift her legs and chest fully off the ground and balance on her tummy, then use her arms to push herself around in a circle. 360 degrees!
It’s kind of terrifying to be on the verge of having a little crawler again. I’ve been trying to prepare the house, making mental notes of the things that will need to be moved, locked down, put away or just generally “proofed”. Adelaide did such a number on us when she learned to crawl…I’m preparing for the same minimalist, locked down lifestyle we once knew. But still, it’s exciting!
She’s getting a lot better about sitting up, but I still don’t trust her not to hurt herself. If something catches her attention, she swings that head around, the rest of her body follows, and down she falls. It’s neat, though, to watch her perfect that core muscle control and be able to sit for longer and longer stretches, unassisted.
She’s been eating solid foods like a champ and loving every most minutes of it. So far, she’s tried sweet potatoes, carrots, bananas, peas, prunes and squash. She didn’t care for the carrots the first time we tried them, but the second time she gobbled them up! She hates peas, and she’s not sure what she thinks about prunes, but the rest she seemed to like!
Eating from a spoon has exposed her long skinny tongue which, we never knew about! She’s so funny, because when she’s really hungry, she leads with her tongue, trying to lap up the food from the spoon like a cat. Each time we eat solids, though, she gets better about opening her mouth for the spoon, instead of just sticking out her tongue.
Cadence has become so vocal! She figured out the “ma” sound and I’ve been treated to choruses of “mama”. SO AWESOME!
Her sleep habits are becoming more consistent. She’s taking two naps each day with a little 15 minute catnap in the late evenings. She goes to bed around 7:30, wakes up between 7 and 8 am, and she’s only getting up 1-2 times a night! Woo!! June is going to be a super crazy month with grandparents visiting us and a road trip to California, so I’m confident that her awesome sleep habits will be totally gone by July. *sigh*
Cadence is terrible about taking a bottle…in fact she basically refuses to eat from a bottle. This is starting to take its toll on our lifestyle, so I have the unpleasant task of introducing bottle feedings into our routine so she learns this skill. Ugh…it’s just one of those things that shouldn’t take training! It’s a bottle with food in it, kid…EAT IT! We’ll see how this goes…
She is still super happy and we are finding all of her ticklish spots!! It’s so fun having a baby who is ticklish! Adelaide never was…still isn’t really. Cadence though, you can get her into fits of giggles just by tickling her sides! Love it!!
Here are the pictures of Cadence from this past month. We love our little girl!

I'd love to hear what you think!
