Cadence is three weeks old!
This week is marked by the bittersweet transition from newborn size clothing to 0-3 month clothing. Adelaide was in nb size clothes until she was eight weeks old, so I really wasn’t prepared to say goodbye to our collection of adorable tiny clothes this soon. I cried a little when I was separating out the too-small items from the laundry today. This is my last baby to wear these clothes!
Despite her quick transition out of nb clothing, I’m very happy that Cadence is such a big, healthy baby. At her pediatrician appointment last week, she weighed in at 8lbs 11oz, which means that she not only gained enough wight to get back to her birth weight, but she surpassed it.
In case you haven’t already guessed it, she’s a good eater! We’re still struggling with the amount of air she swallows while feeding, but frequent burping has helped alleviate her discomfort while she perfects her latch. And she’s also still figuring out the whole breathe-then-suck order of events, which means she starts choking at least once each feeding. It’s awful to have to deal with, but again, this should improve with age. Clearly, neither of these issues is impacting her eating or growing!
Cadence caught her first head cold this week. The only thing that causes less sleep than a newborn, is a newborn with a head cold. BIG FROWNEY FACE! She woke up Saturday morning with some sniffles, and since Adelaide has had a head cold for the past week, I knew exactly what was happening. UGH! So ya…Cadence is congested. Luckily, she can still breathe relatively easily, but the amount of flem/congestion in her sinuses make it nearly impossible for her to sleep laying down—she wakes up coughing and choking within minutes. Between the physics of laying down and her just plain not feeling good, she’s basically been held for the past three days straight. My nights have been more sleepless than usual, to say the least!
Cadence took her first (and second and third) bottle this week! We wanted to wait a few weeks before introducing a bottle, so breastfeeding had the best chance of taking hold, which it has. Now that we have a supply of frozen milk, Matt is able to give Cadence some of her feedings, which has been crucial to me getting some additional rest during the day! She doesn’t seem to have any trouble switching back and forth between breast and bottle, which makes me very happy! I’m looking forward to many long naps and date nights!
