This is the cutest and easiest snack for your Woodland Fairy Party—Mossy Branches!
The girls and I held a very fun Woodland Fairy Party with two of their favorite neighborhood friends.
Is there anything cuter than a bunch of little girls in fairy wings!? I don’t think so… 😀
Alllll of the details of this adorable party will be published soon, but I want to show you how to make this themed snack—Mossy Branches.
SUPPLIES
- Pretzel “Rods”
- Chocolate chips
- Shredded coconut
- Green food coloring (and maybe a little yellow)
HOW TO
Firs, you need to make the “moss”. To do this, you need to chop your shredded coconut into tiny pieces. I think a food processor works best, but a knife will do the job just fine.
Once the coconut is all chopped up, add a few drops of food coloring until you’ve achieved the right shade of green. I ended up adding a few drops of yellow to get the shade I wanted. You don’t want everything to be the exact same shade either—variation will help make the coconut look more like moss.
The food processor is really useful for this step because you can add the food coloring while everything is spinning and chopping.
Finally, spread your coconut on a baking tray and toast in a 350 degree oven for 10-20 minutes—WATCHING THE WHOLE TIME! You want theme to get a tiny bit brown and toasty, but be careful! These will go from toasted to burnt in seconds!
Take the coconut out of the oven and let cool to room temperature. They will crisp up as they cool.
Next, melt your chocolate chips. You can do this in a double boiler over the stove, or in the microwave. Whichever you prefer!
Once the chocolate is melted and smooth, it’s time to assemble!
Dip a pretzel into the chocolate and cover about half of it. Shake off the excess chocolate—THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! If you don’t shake off the excess chocolate, then it will drip off and take all of the coconut with it!
After you have a thin, uniform coating of chocolate on the pretzel, roll the chocolate in the green coconut flakes. Then set aside to cool/harden.
That’s it! Enjoy your tasty snack!
