Happy Spring Break! Are your kids on spring break? I guess different states/cities/school districts have different timing for spring break. For us, it’s this week!
Our little family is on our very first ever family vacation!! Wow! What an adventure! We decided to keep it easy, and low-key for our first foray into family travel—we’re spending the week close to home (only three hours away) but, in a part of the state that looks NOTHING like where we spend our normal, day-to-day life. We’re in beautiful Steamboat Springs, Colorado!
The drive out here was stunningly gorgeous. I wanted to stop so many times along the way to take pictures, but that would have turned our three hour drive into a six hour drive. So this was the only picture I have to share with you, taken during a road-side stop, to let Cadence’s tummy catch up with the rest of us 😉
Do you have a car-sick kiddo? It has really changed the way we approach events and activities. We have about a 30 minute window of drive-time before she starts to get queasy.
For this trip, we brought along our little friend, Zofran. After Cadence’s second bad tummy bug, our pediatrician gave us a standing prescription for this lovely anti-nausea medication, and it’s been life changing! It’s not 100% (see road-side photo above) but it makes it soooo much easier to do things like drive, and fly and deal with vertigo-symptoms-from-a-double-ear-infection.
Also, since buying these little-blue-life-savers, and keeping them in the car, I haven’t had to uninstall and wash every piece of her carseat in OVER A YEAR!!
Anywho, I’d love to know your tips and tricks for driving with a car-sick-kiddo. Leave a comment and let’s commiserate!
But I digress…back to vacation photos!
The first thing we did when we got to this beautiful ski town in the Rocky Mountains, was to checkout the ski area. We brought all of our gear and had hopes of introducing the girls to snowboarding, but the conditions were pretty awful 🙁 Such a bummer. If it was just Matt and I, we probably would have still spent the day on the mountain, but when you’re learning (and falling) you want something softer than man-made icy snow-slush to break your fall. We decided to postpone our family snowboarding until next season.
But we did ride the gondola all the way to the top of the mountain. That was pretty fun 🙂
On day two we went ice skating!! Adelaide has been asking to go ice skating for MONTHS! She did great for her first time, and is already asking to go again.
Cadence even got out there and tried to skate! But she preferred going “weely fast” in the sled.
We skated for over an hour, and we’re all feeling the effects of our workout. Bring on the hot tub!!
Steamboat Springs has a very cute downtown area, and we’ve enjoyed the local restaurants, coffee shops and even a chocolate shop!
After brunch at Winona’s we took a walk by the river. Such a beautiful (and COLD) day!
Matt had to leave us today (sad face) to do the responsible, adult thing and keep his job (Thank you sweetheart! We love you!!). So the girls and I will be exploring the rest of what this town has to offer, all on our own.
Follow me on Instagram to see what we’re up to. Or check back here on Friday to see the rest of our adventures.
Happy Spring Break!
I'd love to hear what you think!
