Last year, I had the realization that hand-made Valentines from Adelaide are so much easier than they sound! And they turned out so cute that I couldn’t wait to make Valentines again this year.
Adelaide has been VERY into cutting things with scissors (like her hair…) so I wanted her to be able to do something with her scissors to make her Valentines.
I put together simple 4×5 cards out of cardstock with hearts on them. Then I let Adelaide cut patterned paper into as many different sized and shaped pieces as she wanted. Next, I gave her some glue and a paintbrush and told her to “paint the heart” and stick a bunch of the patterned pieces of paper to the heart.
They turned out pretty cute! Unfortunately, they curled up really badly when they dried, so next time I would use different glue—a glue stick would have been better for this project. But of course, Adelaide didn’t mind, and she had a lot of fun making her Valentines.
After the Valentines dried, I used a silver paint pen to write “Happy Valentine’s Day” on the cards and then Adelaide decided who was going to receive each one. Then I handed the pen over to Adelaide who signed every Valentine with an “A”.
After the envelopes were stuffed and addressed, we walked to the post office, bought heart stamps, and Adelaide got to put her Valentines in the mail!
We ran out of paper a lot faster than I anticipated, so unfortunately we didn’t make nearly as many Valentines this year as we did last year, so I apologize in advance if you were hoping to receive one, but didn’t 🙁 Please know that we are still thinking about you this Valentine’s Day!
Here are some pictures from the multi-day project:
