Adelaide’s Birthday

Yes, this is the third post about Adelaide’s birthday…it’s just one of those years! She gets a full birthday week! haha! Since yesterday was Adelaide’s actual birthday, Matt took the day off work and we did some celebrating with just our little family. Her day started with painting her princess wand that she got at Emerson’s birthday party the night before. She wore her princess crown while doing this. Of course. Her birthday breakfast was crepes with Nutella! Yumm! Always a treat! After breakfast we opened the gifts from parents and grandparents. Adelaide...

Our THREE year old!

Adelaide is three years old! Most people consider three to be out of the toddler years and into the preschool years. Since she’ll be starting preschool in the fall, I tend to agree with “those people”. So here she is, my PRESCHOOLER!! Three isn’t nearly as shocking a transition as two was, for me. Maybe it’s because I have a baby to compare her to, and she is most definitely not a baby. Or maybe it’s because she has shed almost all of her baby tendencies and is maturing quite rapidly. It’s almost harder to believe she’s not four or five. This little girl is so much fun. She...

An Olivia Birthday Party!

Yesterday was Adelaide’s birthday party! This year, she had an Olivia (the pig) themed party. Olivia is the main character from a children’s book series (turned tv series) by Ian Falconer. We’ve had these books in our collection for about a year now and adore them, so it was a natural choice for her birthday party theme. I had an absolute blast putting this party together!! It has taken up the better part of my life these past few weeks (sorry about the fewer than usual blog posts) but it was TOTALLY worth it! We held the party at a local cupcake shop, in their designated...

Naming Babies

Naming our girls was quite possibly the most fun and most difficult thing I’ve ever done. There seems to be sooooo much wrapped up in a name. It doesn’t seem to matter whether the name defines the person or the person defines the name, eventually the name, and the person wearing it, become synchronous. One of our top priorities when choosing our girls’ names was that they were relatively unique (or not popular) while still being pronounceable. Adelaide’s name easily fulfilled this goal. In 2009 (the year she was born), the name Adelaide was 567th on the Social Security...

Mother’s Day

I had a fantastic mother’s day! Did you? We started celebrating on Saturday with Cirque du Soleil! We left the girls at home with my good friend Kate, and Matt and I enjoyed a quiet afternoon watching some of the most incredible acrobatics and gorgeous costumes I’ve ever seen! The show was OVO and it was all about bugs and a giant egg. It reminded me of A Bugs Life, but with less plot and cooler stunts. It was such a fun show! And the best part was that it was just Matt and I. Quiet time with just the two of us is so rare these days—I was really soaking it up. The girls survived...

Sisters

Adelaide and Cadence adore each other. I feel so lucky to have girls who, at least for now, can’t get enough of each other. The biggest headache they cause me is Adelaide trying to do too much with her baby sister (ie pick her up or roll her across the room). I’m sure this will change as they get older, but for now I’m trying to enjoy the fact that they both love being around each other. This last weekend, during our Sunday morning tv time, Adelaide decided to get out her foam blocks. She decided to do this by throwing their bag up the air and watching the blocks fall all...

Cady’s first food

Over the weekend, we gave Cadence her first experience with solid food! The people who know (aka American Association of Pediatrics) say to introduce solids sometime between four and six months. We introduced Adelaide to solids right when she hit the four month mark, but with Cadence we weren’t in any hurry…so we waited. I’m not sure it makes any difference, but that’s what we did. Adelaide’s first food was rice cereal (very traditional) but for Cadence’s I went with sweet potatoes! I guess the AAP has decided that it doesn’t seem to matter what...
