9 Weeks!

Emery is nine weeks old, and officially hit “two months” on Saturday (the 28th). Yesterday (Monday) was her two-month check up…she weighs 13 lbs!!!! haha! WOW! 13 lbs, puts her in the 90th percentile for weight, while her modest 22″ length keeps her in the 50th percentile for height. That’s my girl! I was a little concerned about her weight because Adelaide was NOT this big at two months old (she was 11.8 lbs), but our pediatrician insisted that on-demand breastfeeding is perfectly fine and Emery is not over eating. So there you go. We have an super cute, super...

8 weeks old!

My baby girl is 8 weeks old today! I guess that’s also two months old…even though the 28th is still 5 days away…meh, whatevs. Some things about Emery from this last week: She hates the car. I don’t think you heard me. She H!A!T!E!S! the car. Every car ride this last week had Emery screaming her head off for at least 15 minutes of the drive. It was awesome because most or trips in the car are only 10 or 15 minutes. She’s never really loved the car, but this week we hit a new low. I have no idea what is so offensive to her. I checked her seat/belts/clothes to make...

Potty Trained!!

At 8:30am on Tuesday, January 17, Adelaide took off her last diaper ever! I’ve been dreading, and avoiding potty training because I was terrified of all of the effort it would require, but it turned out to be very little work on my part! Adelaide was incredible. She used the potty right away! I explained what we were doing (no more diapers, big girl potty, sticker chart, books and prizes, weeeee!) and not 20 minutes later, while we were playing, she popped her head up and said “POTTY MAMA!” and ran to the bathroom! BLEW MY MIND!!!!! hahaha! The rest of the day continued like...

7 weeks!

Time is passing so quickly! I think it went slower last time…I’m sure of it. Anyhow. Here are some more fun tid-bits about our little Emery Olivia. She’s using her voice for more than just crying! Her tiny coos and gurgles are so sweet! She just melts me when she starts “talking”. Sometimes I’ll ask Adelaide, “What is Emery saying?” and Adelaide typically responds with an authoritative, “Emery wants chocolate milk, mommy”. hahaha! Her hair is still red, her eyes are still blue, her eyebrows are still blond, but her eye lashes have...

Zoo Lights

One of Portland’s holiday attractions is Zoo Lights at the Oregon Zoo. In the 15+ years my family has lived in Portland, we have never gone to see this amazing spectacle of lights…until this year. I pretty much forced my parents, sister, husband and kids to venture out on one of the rainiest, coldest nights in December to see this thing. It was cool…but totally not worth the wet and cold. One thing’s for sure, though, it was an experience we won’t...

6 Weeks!

She smiles!! The major excitement of this past week has been Emery’s on-purpose smiles. Her first smile was for Matt (and her second, too!) which is completely appropriate because no one in this world makes me smile more than he does. She gave me a smile one afternoon too! It’s so great to see her make a happy expression! I was just surviving the last six weeks assuming that as long as my child wasn’t screaming, she was somewhere in the vicinity of happy. But now I have proof! Smiles are so great. I don’t have a good picture yet…hmm…but I’m working on...

5 weeks

Emery is now five weeks old! Time is disappearing!! Matt’s family-leave ends today, so his first day back to work, and my first day with both girls by myself, is tomorrow. I’m nervous…that’s for sure. My goals for this week are very minimal—keep everyone alive and make dinner every night. If I can accomplish this feat, then I’ll move on to more advanced goals (like showering and getting dressed) next week. Here are some things we’ve learned about our new one-month-old: She’s an excellent eater. We took her to see the pediatrician on Friday because...
