Well, folks. Today I am officially 38 weeks along in this pregnancy. At this point in my pregnancy with Adelaide, I was laying in a hospital bed, snuggling my tiny new baby. So, this is officially, the longest I’ve ever been pregnant!
Both Matt and I suspect I’ll go into labor sometime this week. Probably at some very inconvenient time, like during Thanksgiving dinner or something. But really, we don’t care when it happens, we just really want it to happen! We didn’t have to play this waiting game with Adelaide. She surprised us two whole weeks before her due date, so we weren’t prepared at all! This time, with all of the contractions I’ve been having, yet no real labor, it feels like I’m already overdue, and I still have two weeks until my due date! Ugh…
Well the good news is, we are VERY ready for this baby to be born. Everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) has been washed and/or sanitized, my hospital bag is packed, the car seat is by the door, ready to go, and we have a calendar of all of our potential babysitters’ schedules, so we know who to call when we need them. Now we just need some labor…
I treated myself to what I’m calling a Mommy Pamper Day last weekend. A day for me to relax, focus on myself, and enjoy being pampered! It started with a trip to Urban Waxx. If you remember from my last pregnancy, I visited them just before the end as well, to make sure my lady parts were presentable. Again, they did not disappoint! Oh and ps, if you live in the Portland area and need a bikini wax, you can get 15% off your first visit to Urban Waxx! Just tell them I sent you!
After my lovely wax, I grabbed a bite to eat at my favorite sandwich spot, Panera Bread. I knew I’d be eating by myself, so I made sure to bring the latest issue of my favorite magazine, Real Simple. After a wonderfully relaxing lunch I headed down to The Massage Clinic for a prenatal massage. Soooooooo incredible! I asked my masseuse to focus on the tension in my upper back, shoulders and jaw. These areas have proven to be connected to a woman’s uterus and cervix during labor, so I wanted a jump start at relaxing these areas, hoping maybe it would help get labor going. So far, that hasn’t been the case, but it felt amazing anyway!
After my massage, my next and final appointment of the day was for a manicure and pedicure at my favorite local nail salon. Two hours of blissful soaking and massaging and relaxing! And now, I have pretty toes and fingers! These are important things people…
My Mommy Pamper Day was sublime! I highly recommend one for any mommy-to-be!
I had my 38 week midwife appointment today and everything is still going well! Baby is head down and has a healthy heart rate. She’s measuring ahead of schedule still—my belly is now 40cm which is about two weeks ahead of schedule. She’s going to be a lot bigger than her sister was! Adelaide was 6.5 lbs, so I’m guessing this little girl will be 7.5-8.
They made me make a 41 week appointment…sad face…and then let me in on the unfortunate scenario of what happens if I have to go to that 41 week appointment. I guess VBAC candidates are tricky to induce, so if I’m 41 weeks along and still not in labor, I get to meet with an OB/GYN and start making difficult decisions. I really, really, REALLY hope I don’t get to that point. Come on little girl…you can do it! So many people are waiting to love on you!! I’m staying positive, though. That’s still three whole weeks away! That’s 21 possible birthdays for this little girl between now and then! Plenty of time….I hope…
That’s all the updates I have, so now, here’s some pictures:
I'd love to hear what you think!
